Turkish Medical Association Is Not Alone

Turkish Medical Association was exposed to lynching attempt started through social media because of its “War is a Problem of Public Health” statement made on January 24 2018.

News, which were crossing the line of criticism, aggressive, threatening,  particularly made by pro-government media went along the lynch wave started on social media. Lastly, Turkish Medical Association was criminated and pointed as target in public speech given by the Turkish President, on January 26, 2018.

Peace demand to be silenced through threatening, lynching and polarizing language is exemplary for displaying level that anti-democratic regime came in Turkey.

All institutions and organizations carrying responsibility towards their country and society should be careful about what they say and what they do in a political atmosphere that the Law has sided with the one who is powerful; media has turned into univocal apparatus of government; the right of freedom of speech has been banned.

Every path and attitude which goes along with this caravan should criticize itself, while operation of pressure on opponent voices by political power and its extensions continues.

We follow threats towards people in administration of the Turkish Medical Association with concern and disapprove this attitude.

TMMOB is in solidarity with the Turkish Medical Association and shares its will for freedom, democracy and peace.
